Individual Coach Supervision supports a coach to learn from reflecting on their coaching. The coach (supervisee) and the supervisor collaboratively reflect on whatever aspect of coaching the coach has chosen to bring to supervision. Individual Coach Supervision is highly valuable whether you are new to coaching and are seeking to build greater confidence as a coach or whether you are a more experienced coach desiring to be more conscious of your competence in terms of your approach and what you are bringing to the coaching experience for your coachees.
The GCI approach to supervision draws upon Solution Focus (SF) ideas and focuses on the actual work of the coach. It is quite common for work to be presented as a video of a coaching segment, a transcript or a verbatim with various approaches used by the supervisor to enable collaborative reflection on the coaching presented. The Supervisor’s expertise supports empathy and connection and brings an appropriate approach and perspective to exploring the work.
Supervision supports the development of the coach, enabling them to become the best coach they can be; it challenges the coach to check their approaches and actions against the fundamental ideas about effective coaching; and it provides a safe space to share vulnerabilities.
There is a loose structure for supervision including creating a preferred future for what is presented; finding competencies and resources; identifying next steps and taking action; and finally, noticing, reflecting and measuring success.
Why work with a GCI Coach Supervisor?
GCI Coach Supervisors have gained Accredited Coach Supervisor status with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. They also practice as coaches, engage in supervision of their own coaching and seek supervision of their supervision ensuring they maintain reliability and credibility as Coach Supervisors. They bring to supervision the same empathic perspective and capacity to build positive relationships that they bring to their work as GCI Coaches.
