2022 end of year message from our Executive Director Chris Munro

As we round out another challenging year for educators around the world, I wanted to pass on the gratitude of everyone at Growth Coaching International for everything you do to support educators and students and to wish you all a relaxing, rejuvenating and joyful festive holiday.

For GCI, 2022 has been a successful year on many fronts. I was fortunate to spend a few days at our headquarters in Sydney last week where for the first time in more than two years, we were able to bring together our leadership and business services team members. This was a wonderful few days during which I frequently found myself reflecting on the strengths and qualities of our diverse team and how we proudly live out our purpose and values.

Together, we were able to reflect on the successes of the past year and look forward to extending the reach of our work even further in 2023. At the risk of contradicting the number one quality of an effective coach – humility – I’d like to share a selection of those successes with you here:

  • In 2022, we delivered training to more than 4000 participants over 280 cohorts and coached more than 700 educators across Australia.

  • We delivered our first ever global online conference in 2022 and we have another fantastic line-up for 2023

  • Our revised and updated Online Coaching Accreditation Program is now established as our flagship coach training program and has been reaccredited for the next five years by EMCC Global

  • The Online Coaching Accreditation Program will be available to Victorian government school leaders through the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership in 2023

  • The successful launch of Advanced Coaching Practice with Prof. Christian van Nieuwerburgh

  • The development of our new Coaching in Leadership course ready for launch at the start of 2023

  • Our growing contribution to the development of coaching and mentoring skills in Early Childhood Education

  • Expansion of our support for government school educators across Australia through the award or continuation of significant contracts and endorsements including supporting the roll-out of the Western Australia DoE Quality Teaching Strategy in developing instructional coaches; state-wide 1-1 Leadership Coaching for experienced Principals in New South Wales; inclusion on the panel of prequalified suppliers for the delivery of professional development for the Queensland DoE; and the provision of coaching and coaching training on five programs for the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership

  • Our long-term partnership with The Education Group in New Zealand continues to flourish with 2022 being the best year to date where we worked with almost 800 educators from 22 different schools!

  • We delivered our first courses in Vietnam (online) and Northern Ireland (in-person)

  • Endorsement of our Introduction to Leadership Coaching course by Education Scotland

  • Christian van Nieuwerburgh delivered a keynote on educator flourishing and Chris Munro presented a workshop on coaching as a way of leading at the 2022 Teaching Learning Coaching (TLC) conference in San Antonio, USA

  • Our Global Director Christian van Nieuwerburgh and Founding Director John Campbell were awarded the Don Deshler Leadership Award by Dr Jim Knight at the TLC conference

  • Christian and Chris presented alongside our international partners Dr Jim Knight and Prof. Rachel Lofthouse at the 12th Festival of Education attended by thousands of educators in England

  • Finally, we welcome new members of our leadership team – Debbie Lowe and Dan Steele join us as Managing Consultants for NSW/ACT and Vic/Tas respectively and Av Swami as Director in WA/SA/NT. Each bring significant knowledge, expertise and experience to GCI

We are looking forward to reconnecting with you in the new year. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday.

With my best wishes,
Chris Munro
